Outsider is a made- at- home hardcore/punk fanzine that operates out of Newburgh (Orange County), NY. Covering NY, NJ, CT, PA, MA and the world. We write about the bands, art and topics that we care about...who cares about all that other stuff?!
The zine was started in 2000 while I was a senior in high school to publish and distribute my friends' poems and short stories. After the first issue, I started writing about my friends' bands and eventually, the zine became pretty well known to the Hudson Valley, NY music scene. Now, almost 14 years later Outsider is going strong. It is still run DIY and completely independent of sponsorship. Copies are and will always be available for free. Issue #27 is out NOW.
To find locations where Outsider is available drop us a line, give us a ring at 845-527-4853 (our store number) or send a SASE (big enough for a 8 1/2" x 11" magazine) to Outsider Magazine, 113 Liberty Street, Newburgh, NY 12550. You will receive one copy of the current issue and most likely a pin or sticker. For back issues, tell us which ones you want and enclose $1 per issue (issues 1,2,3, 5, 12 and 15, 22 are no longer available in print. Production on issue #28 will is happening now. Submissions and ads for upcoming issues are being accepted now!
Who can contribute to Outsider? :
Anyone! All bands, unsigned and signed looking to do interviews or play in our Outsider shows in the Hudson Valley, NY Area are eligible to be featured one way or another in the zine. Free publicity...Who knew? We are mainly Rock, Punk, Metal, Hardcore, Ska, Rockabilly oriented when it comes to music, but are certainly open to other generes. Submissions of writing, artwork and Photography are always welcome as are ideas for articles. Come at us with those editorials and reviews!!!
We are always looking for reliable people to do interviews with bands and write ongoing opinion columns and are always in need of comic strip artists. You're not a professional? ... neither are we, just send your stuff in and if we like it we use it, simple as can be.
